Sales, client management and solution design

I am really proud to be part of a company that is trying to be on the right side of both history and humanity.

Tell us about your role. What does a day in your life at Capgemini look like?

In my daily role, I am responsible for all the bookings we do with our prospective clients, through frontline bid, the proposal management team and solution executives. This involves me managing workflow through and within my team and providing the support needed for us all to do an excellent job in actively solving our client problems. These vary so much that the work makes your days stay interesting.

What’s the best thing about working at Capgemini?

Primarily, it’s the people, having a voice and being able to make fresh ideas reality. I work with a diverse group of smart, talented people and Capgemini allows me to show up as my true self, where my ideas are respected, and my successes are recognized. I think that’s one of the things that continues to keep me engaged and motivated and wake up with energy on a daily basis. When there are challenges to overcome, I can do what needs to be done and expect leadership support. That level of trust, respect and autonomy is one of the key differentiators for Capgemini as an employer.

There is no shortage of colleagues that want to help either. Whether it’s to impart knowledge, give advice, or to jump in with you and get things over the line. In sales, we work in a pretty fast-paced  environment that can be quite stressful at times. So, from that viewpoint, your colleagues really matter. You feel like you’re in a group who is in it with you.

What makes you proud to work at Capgemini?

I am really proud to be part of a company that is trying to be on the right side of both history and humanity. Our CEO has spoken very clearly about anti-racism and inclusion that’s not just about gender, but race and ethnicity too, and he’s encouraging us all to play our part. I’m a member of the Inclusion Leadership Advisory Council, focused on improving inclusion, specifically for under-represented minorities.

What’s most satisfying is that Capgemini is enabling us to play our part too. It’s not a show that ticks some boxes or an ongoing debate that never achieves anything. It’s about enabling deliberate action to deliver positive change. We decide what needs to change, we change it, and it’s working. Some of the key actions I’m proud of include our work to recruit more under-represented minorities and our unconscious bias training, which is now required bi-annually for every vice president in the company.

How are you working towards the future you want?

As a leader in Capgemini, I’m supported in achieving both my professional goals and my personal aspirations. I strive to lead and live by example and Capgemini provides a culture and leadership environment that enables me to do so.

I can hire the people I need. They can have different backgrounds and may be from very different cultures, with varying types of experience and levels of education. I can build the team I want.

What advice would you give to someone joining Capgemini?

Talk to people, because you’ll be welcomed, and you’ll soon feel like you belong. Work especially hard to gain a better understanding and appreciation of those who are different to you. It’ll help you create something new and different to bring to market. If you connect to the people of Capgemini through the employee representative groups, you’ll soon find working hard is not going to be a problem, because at that point, it’s doesn’t feel like work at all.

How do you think Capgemini’s support has been since the pandemic began?

Capgemini puts its people first, always. Our safety, families, mental wellness and overall knowledge of the situation are all that matters, and we are fully supported in supporting each other to limit the impact of the pandemic as much as possible. For me, being a part of an organization that offers support like that, during extraordinary times like these, is amazing. It makes me proud to be part of Capgemini.
